The Cistern Project
The Cistern Project is a collaborative open space project whose goal is to support water conservation through collective narrative making, idea and information exchange. The project takes its name from 14 above ground rainwater harvesting tanks located across the site at Evergreen Brick Works. These tanks are part of a larger water conservation, water quality and public engagement and stewardship program being developed by Evergreen and its project partners over a five year span.
We are currently developing interpretation about water in cities, along with a curatorial strategy that will see each cistern – 10 ft high by 27 ft in circumference – feature a large scale art installation. Contributing artists will be asked to submit concept proposals that use the cistern’s armature for sculptures that inspire and explore the relationship of water in our urban environments.
