Temporal Landscapes 1
Evergreen Brick Works 550 Bayview Ave.
March 12 – April 16, 2012
The artworks currently on display are inspired by the unique presence of deep time in the landscape of the site. Based on the knowledge that the Earth warms and cools over hundreds of thousands of years, these works explore how a changing climate affects our sense of place.
In terms of artistic process, the series explores the roles that arise when reproduction and the immediacy of the hand are brought in direct concert with each other. These works on paper are made with the use of an HP Z5200 large format printer. The base images are digitally manipulated before being printed with archival inks on 100% cotton acid free papers, and treated with varnish before mixed media is applied.
Special thanks to HP Canada for their kind and generous support, and to geologists Nick Eyles and Ed Freeman for sharing their profound insights, inspiration, and valuable time.
